Well the higher the resolution the more footage fraps has to record = the more laggier it is. If your computer can handle it 1680x1050 at 30fps would be good but if it's laggy I would record at 800x600 or somthing smaller. It would help your fps out.
so yeah try lowering your resolution that should help out a ton
